Welcome to all the new friends. Welcome to the snarky side of the runway, where we don’t follow trends, don’t aspire to sit in the front rows and we are only buying five things this year (or at least we are trying).
I changed the title from Thinking to Talking because this Substack community is fun, opinionated, lively, and talkative. You people talk with me about those things I was only thinking about before and I am totally here for it.
You know how I always complain about Miami, its amphibious heat/humidity ratio, and lack of season variety? Well, I am preparing for my first of a series of NY trips and I can’t stop digging in the winter wardrobe and coming up with looks that are cool, current, convenient, comfortable, and I can’t find another word with the C. But, here some things to talk about.
The vintage LL Bean barn jacket I snagged on Poshmark and why, if I didn’t live in Miami, I would also buy the antique rose, the cropped one to walk the dog and this floral one for apple picking.
Then because this sold-out Miu Miu gold lame’ coat lives rent-free in my brain, ask me how many searches I have active for a vintage gold brocade overcoat. I may have sent a couple of offers too. Also, my IG BFF Laura, aka La Deeply Shallow, has one from her grandmother’s armoire (how grande dame?) and she wore it with shorts for school drop-off, like so rock ‘n roll I can’t handle it. Talking about keeping it cool, stylish, and personal.
BTW, if you are a thrifter, vintage, second-hand, clothes-swapper peep, you need the app GEM! It searches for whatever you are looking for through a bunch of second-hand platforms, it’s like a Dyson vacuum cleaner or a genie in a bottle. In any case, it became a tool for me to add to my list of hacks for a successful second-hand find.
The newsletter is late because I spent the weekend thinking about how to go from one picture to strategically packing for a 2-day/2-night trip of airport looks, subway, classroom, and some climate panel discussion.
See the barn coat? I barely do prints, but I love my dresses worn with suede boots and a small leather crossbody.
Bonus question: do you think this whimsy collar could qualify for disruptive minimalism?
Love
“The best Martinis taste like stealth luxury and a well-composed American sonnet.” (found in The New Yorker newsletter)
Love all the praise of Luar, however tearing down the curtains of Beyoncè and Madonna in the front row, I don’t understand it. Can someone explain it to me as if I were a 3rd grader?
September we watch Gilmore Girls
The Friday Afternoon Club is so good that I don’t want it to finish.
Hate
Candy corn and marshmallow, not for their taste but for their creepy consistency.
People talking on speakerphone in public.
I’m annoyed and bored by “Emily in Paris”, and I know I shouldn’t care and just ignore it, but it’s a little bit too much in my face.
When I wake up at 3 am and the series on rotation is a criminal, gruesome one.
How do you say it in Italian?
Fa freddino when in September the air becomes nippy and you can finally start wearing those damn socks with sling backs.
Omg I love GEM, too!!! xx
